Ty Rex (Tyler Rex Linahan) is a pianist, artist, and therapeutic facilitator whose work bridges music, visual art, and contemplative practice. Rooted in classical training and shaped by spiritual exploration, his work focuses on creativity and improvisation as pathways to healing and embodied awareness.
Ty Rex began classical piano studies at age five and developed an interest in film music by twelve. By high school, he was working professionally as a collaborative pianist and accompanist at the collegiate level, later assisting with film and television scoring for Ah2 Music. He earned a Bachelor of Music in composition from Azusa Pacific University in 2016 and went on to work under composer Bear McCreary at Sparks and Shadows.
In 2020, he launched his solo project Ty Rex with ‘Rumors of War’, a piano and fine art photography release exploring themes of solitude and spiritual recovery. For two years he was an artist-in-residence at the Lullaby Club (2021), a space for meditative sound experiences, and Open House (2023), a monthly performance and community series uniting improvisation, healing, and creative process.
As the founder of Redding Arts (2017), Rex led a civic initiative that
brought large-scale murals and public art installations to downtown Redding, California, in partnership with the mayor’s office and local organizations.
Influenced by Buddhist psychology and Indigenous teachings from Lakota, Cree, Kanaka Maoli, and Mesoamerican elders, Rex’s creative and spiritual philosophy draws from the I Ching, Gene Keys, archetypal studies, and astrology. His current work centers on sound as a tool for embodiment and transformation, offering guided soundbaths, live meditation performances, and improvisation workshops for grounding, emotional release, and intuitive development.
